The counter guy said he never heard of it and tried to sell me somthing else whitch I would not buy. I insisted that he try to order it from his warehouse whitch he fiinally agreed to do.

I got it today and the part number is The bucket reads 90wt gear oil GL-1 but no where on the bucket does it say mineral oil so I am wondering if I really got the right stuff.

Not good enough for tranny ot rear axle, wont hurt the hydraulics but not what is specified. I tried 3 walmart stores. One in Montana where I live and two in North Dakota and none of them had it. I paid NAPA I just changed mine from GL-5 to GL Anyway, after switching to GL-1, I noticed that the lift is less responsive than before.

May just be coincidence. It seems to hesistate a little before coming up. Any viscosity difference? Was the gl-5 an 80w90? If so.. SouNdguy, Thanks for the reply. Yes the GL-5 was 80w The GL-1 says 90W.

Maybe in the hot summer the GL-1 will serve me better. Some people find that their lift works much faster using the really thin d oil. However there is a trade off. If the lift system is worn or a tad leaky.. Unless the lift is intolerably slow on the 90w, or unless you just rebuilt the hyds.. I'd stick with it.. The 90w should limber up a little once the unit warms up, as it is in the tranny, and rear end, and hyds.. Actually GL-1 is not bad for your 8N but it is actually only a sentimental choice that most on this this board favor.

It actually comes from the 9N era 9 years prior to the 8N. Lube manufacturers state even the present GL-5 has additives to prevent damage to yellow metal parts, that is the boards big concern as to not using it but with the additives it too should be OK.
