The blame therefore, if we choose to play the blame-game, lies not with the proverbial system, or the methods, or the teachers, or even the costs of higher education. Everyone seems to have an opinion on the state of the economy, the causes, the effects and the prospects for the future, but of those how many have taken an online. I was surprised recently to encounter a college graduate, a working professional, that did not know what Google Scholar was, or that such a thing even existed!

There are countless academic journals that use Open Access so all of their published articles are available online free of charge. There is nothing wrong with Wikipedia, but people neglect to use its real potential: the references and citations!

Following those to their sources is where the real substance of the topic can be found. There is an even more ominous problem with indifference. If we are not ourselves learning and researching we cannot show our children and grandchildren how to do these same activities.

We are all born ignorant, with no inherited knowledge, but indifference is something we learn from those around us. This list of excuses for this problem is nearly infinite. Bluntly, all of that is crap! When using these terms it is usually understood that an ignorant person would do something different if they knew better, but an apathetic person is not changed by an increase in knowledge.

To reach an apathetic person, their emotions or their heart must be touched and changed. However, an ignorant person can be changed in their mindset simply with an increase in education. Once a person is educated about whatever they were ignorant about, the state of ignorance is gone. It should be noted, as well, that ignorance can cause apathy. A lack of education about the world or something specific in it could lead a person to not have interest.

On the contrary though, apathy can never lead to ignorance. So even though there may be a connection between these words they are used very differently in the English language. It is wise not to be ignorant or apathetic about their usage. These characteristics are used as adjectives to describe a person. Human behavior is the way an individual responds to internal and external stimuli. There are various kinds of human behaviors.

Human behaviors can be normal and few abnormal. Certain characteristics pass to a person as heredity, and few are what they develop and adopt by themselves in the course of life. Outspoken, shy , ignorant, sympathetic, apathetic, etc.

The difference between ignorance and apathy is that ignorance is the lack of knowledge or information, whereas apathy is the lack of interest or concern. An ignorant person is someone who does not have the knowledge or information to do something, is unaware, whereas an apathetic person is someone who has the knowledge but is not interested or concerned to do something.

Ignorance is a state of being unaware or lack of knowledge. Ignorant is an adjective used to describe a person in this state. There are different kinds of ignorance.
